So this guy in a sociology class posted BS quote on Wikipedia for an experiment minutes after a famous composer died. In a result, multiple newspapers around the globe posted the quote into the obituaries before Wikipedia deleted the quote.

This kid is officially my hero. I can't believe so many journalists were that stupid to not double-check the quote before publishing it. Honestly, I'm in high school and I never even look at Wikipedia in the first place when writing my articles.

I read about this a couple days ago, it just goes to show that even the media can be flawed. I guess it just goes to show that anything we believe has a foundation, and oftentimes that foundation is made of shaky ideas or built on unstable data. That's why I only give my coveted 99.99% belief ratings to things I see with my own eyes.

The difference between someone who *thinks* they're superior and the one who *knows*, is that the one who *knows* remains humble and respectful. The one who *thinks* goes out of their way to appear superior.

Wow...  They always tell us to not use Wikipedia as a source.  Looks like it's a lesson the big people in journalism have yet to learn.

But that was a really convincing made-up quote.  Very poetic.  That kid did a good job of a wild goose chase.

Just goes to show how you really can't trust the news anymore, I mean these are the people we put in charge of telling us what is going on in the world, and all they do is look at Wiki and Blogs for their research? This actually doesnt surprise me since the media has been failing alot in recent years.

Epic fail for journalism. Wikipedias are for quick reference, not for serious fact-finding.

Meh, I kinda felt all that stuff before was unnecessary, so I'm not gonna bother. I will, however, keep my claim on "97!", just 'cause I like it too much.

Who in their right mind would only rely on Wikipedia and crap like that for serious research anyway? Hahahahaha. Good job, student- we shall all look up to him.

Wiki actually does a good job maitaining their site of solid facts. They have a staff that constantly paroozes new additions to the site and check the references of the site.

I read that same story and it was taken down within a couple of hours by Wiki. It took the papers longer to realise what they had done.
