Fic update:

Well, I've gotten a little more caught up in schoolwork, have gotten some ideas from fanvids and re-watching some episodes of Avatar, have actually worked on my AMV (I don't know if I'll be able to do the whole song. It's long and it's a SokkaxYue vid. As you can probably guess there's not whole lot of clips of them. Also, next project will probably be a SokkaxSuki vid....mostly because...I've never seen one. o.o), my website.....yeah, not so much, XD, but I think I'll do some writing tonight, so expect a new chapter tonight or tomorrow afternoon. ^_^

Author's Notes: I'm not....entirely happy with this chapter. I'm not UNhappy with it, but, you know...finicky writer...

BTW, if anyone comments just to tell me it's long I am going to kick some major ass, honestly.

Anyhoo, enjoy the chapter.

The Lone Earthbender

Book 1: Water

Chapter 16 Part 1

"Girl!" yelled Zhao.

Xemone, fully dressed in her new Fire Nation armor said under her breath in an irritated voice, "Why is it no one can say my name? Why?"

"Girl!!"

"Yes, sir!" said Xemone as she made her way to the wheelhouse where Zhao and his new General, Iroh, were overseeing the course for the North Pole.

Iroh was adjusting to General life just fine, though he hated that he had to follow Zhao. Xemone, on the other hand, had gotten the short end of the stick and had to deal with being his personal bodyguard; though he treated her like she was his personal lackey…

"We're fast approaching the North Pole. Are you combat ready?" asked Zhao, Iroh standing in the corner in his new General garb.

"Yes, sir, Admiral Zhao!" answered Xemone.

"Good. Prove your worth to me once we get there, Earthbender."

Xemone nodded, reluctantly.

"It'll still be quite a while before we reach the North Pole, young Xemone." said Iroh,
"Perhaps you should check up on some things in the ship and report back here later."

Xemone nodded yet again, unwillingly bowed respect to Zhao and walked off into the ship.

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

Xemone walked through the corridors of the ship and stopped in a small nook between a stairwell and the next hallway and tapped the wall three times.

On the other side of the wall was Zuko, also in Fire Nation armor, though in disguise to keep Zhao from knowing that he was still alive, also tapped the wall three times to signal back to Xemone.

Xemone took her signal that Zuko was waiting for her to meet, and then left the nook to meet up with Zuko.

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

A couple of minutes later, in a small smugglers hold, Zuko awaited Xemone’s arrival.

Xemone tapped on the door three times and Zuko unlocked the door, let her in and relocked the door.

"You know, it's beginning to be a bit of a bother sneaking around like this, Prince."

Zuko took off his face plate and said, "I told you that you didn't have to do this."

"I know that, but I'm already in this so you can't get rid of me now...even if I have to be Zhao's little lackey...”

Zuko gave a small smile followed by a quick frown.

“By the way, how are you healing? You're bound to need to do some fighting out there. Are you going to be able to hold your own?" asked Xemone, genuinely concerned.

"I'm fine. Mostly bruises and cuts, a couple burns, it's nothing. I'm perfectly fine to fight." answered Zuko.

"Hmph...Good...Just don't go getting yourself killed."

Zuko replaced his face plate while saying, "You too..."

"And for crying out loud, get a good plan together before we hit shore." Xemone then left the room later followed by Zuko to not raise suspicions.

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

A while later, back on the deck, Xemone had returned to Iroh’s and Zhao's sides and the ship was fast approaching the North Pole.

"This will truly be one for the history books." said Zhao with his head up in pride, "Just think. Centuries from now people will be reading of the great Admiral Zhao, who destroyed the last of the Water Tribe civilization. You're lucky you're here to see it General."

"Be careful what you wish for, Admiral." said Iroh, "History is not always kind to its subjects..."

"I suppose you speak from experience. But rest assured, this will be nothing like your legendary failure at Ba Sing Se."

"I hope not...for your sake..." answered Iroh in a somber tone.

"General, tell the crew to prepare for first strike." ordered Zhao.

Iroh bowed in respect before carrying out Zhao’s orders and leaving the room.

"Earthbender, you tell the soldiers to ready themselves."

"Sir!" said Xemone while standing at attention. She acted out the part well, but she hated every “Yes, sir!” that came out of her mouth.

She walked into the hallway and met up with Zuko who was waiting in the corner.

"We'll be hitting shore soon,” she whispered, "Got a plan yet?"

"I'm working on it."

"Well, hurry." She then walked off to ready the soldiers as per Zhao’s commands.

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

Around sunset, the assault on the North Pole had already begun from afar, launching fireballs through the air towards the icy fortress that was the massive Northern Water tribe.

The Northern Water tribe was certainly different than its Southern counterpart. Instead of igloos and primitive weapons with only around twenty citizens, this place had giant buildings and bridges of ice, huge weapons, and had probably hundreds if not thousands of citizens. It was like a huge ice city.

"It's almost twilight, Admiral." said Iroh, "As your military consultant, I must advise you to halt your attack."

"What's that General?" asked Zhao.

"The Waterbenders draw their power from the moon and it's nearly full tonight." explained Xemone while standing guard by Zhao.

"Yes, I suggest we halt the attack until daybreak." continued Iroh.

"Oh, I'm very aware of the moon problem and I am working on a solution..." said Zhao with a sinister smile.”But for now...Daybreak it is...Send the order to the Captains to anchor the ships and cease fire.”

"Aye, sir!"

Xemone then went to tell the Captain of the ship, who sent out the orders to the other Captains and the warships anchored themselves immediately.

Xemone then went to meet up with Zuko again to prepare for their departure.

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

That night, now both dressed in appropriate winter wear for the North Pole, Zuko in fully white, for camouflage, pants, shirt and hooded jacket, with Xemone wearing a nearly identical outfit, Xemone and Zuko prepared a lifeboat for departure in an empty room.

Iroh then entered the room, shut the door behind him and said "You're fishing for an octopus. You'll need a tightly woven net or else he will slip away through the tiniest hole."

"Right, pack a net." said Xemone half-jokingly.

"We have no time for your proverbs, Uncle." said Zuko.

"I'm sorry. I just nag you because...Well..." Tears started to glisten in Iroh’s eyes as he spoke, "Ever since I lost my son...."

"Uncle...you don't have to say it..."

A confused expression became plastered on Xemone’s face since she had no idea of what they were talking about.

"I think of you as my own...even young Xemone has earned a place in my heart."

Xemone smiled slightly and finished preparing the boat. She grabbed her sand gourd and hopped into the boat.

"We'll meet again, Uncle."

"Yes. It'll be snowing in the Fire Nation before I die in this giant igloo."

Iroh then hugged Zuko, who gave a hug back before he climbed into the boat with Xemone.

Zuko and Xemone grabbed the ropes and started their descent into the water.

"Zuko, remember your breath of fire. It could save your lives out there." advised Iroh.

"I will, Uncle."

"And keep your hoods up .Don't let your ears get too cold!"

"We'll be fine!" yelled Zuko as their boat hit the water.

Xemone and Zuko both nodded to each other, signaling that they were ready for what was ahead, and they went off towards the North Pole.

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

While paddling towards the North Pole, after a few minutes of silence, Xemone asked Zuko, "So...what happened to Iroh's son?"

Zuko replied somberly, not meeting Xemone’s eyes, "He was killed during the attack on Ba Sing Se."

"Ah...I see.” replied Xemone with a similar tone, “Is that why he retreated?"

"Yes...Even though it was falsely branded his "biggest failure""

"Is...Is that why he was stripped of his rank? Is that why he was bumped off his rightful place as Fire Lord?”

Zuko answered with nothing but silence.

“That is completely ridiculous. He lost his son in battle for God's sake who can expect he could just brush that off and continue the invasion? And then to have him come back to his rank taken away and his crown on his younger brother's head when it is rightfully his? No offense, Prince, but the Fire Nation seems to be rather cruel…"

"Believe me...I know...Put up your hood before you get sick."

"Hmph....Yes, big brother…" Xemone said mockingly before putting up her hood as they hit shore.

Xemone dragged the boat onto the shore to make it stay put and not dragged away by the current. They climbed behind a snow banking to keep an eye out for the Water Tribe soldiers.

Zuko then signaled over to a hole in the ice that was the start of an underwater tunnel. The ice was so clear in that general area that they could see partway to where the tunnel headed. It seemed to head down the right side of the city.

"Oh great." said Xemone, "I'm going to have to swim a mile underwater with two-hundred pounds of sand on my back when I can't swim."

"Just hold onto my arm then."

Xemone gave a Zuko a weird look.

Zuko returned her look with a knowing glance and said, “Just do it…”

She sighed and grabbed Zuko's arm.

"Take as deep a breath as you can and prepare for the frigid temperatures in the water.”

Xemone did as Zuko asked and took a deep breath, as did Zuko. She signaled she was ready to Zuko and they dove into the water.

They swam through the underwater cave system, trying to navigate through to the other side, hoping they could hold their breath and bear the freezing cold water for as long as it took to get where they needed to be.

Guess she wasn't kidding about the two hundred pounds of sand thing...I bet it's three times as heavy underwater. Thought Zuko as he struggled to pull her through the water. It was clear that she wasn’t enjoying herself either. She was earthbending her sand as much as she could just to keep from sinking, creating a spinning ring of sand around her.

They were running low on breath quickly, which is not surprising in such cold waters, and they knew they had to find a pocket of air in the caves to catch a quick breath at least, and soon.

Xemone signaled to Zuko that there was an opening above them. It looked like a hole was broken into the ice by something. Zuko nodded and swam up through the opening, pulling Xemone along, revealing it was an entrance to a cave frequented by turtleseals.

They both fell on the ground as they pulled themselves out of the hole, desperately catch their breath.

They both shivered violently and tried to warm themselves up, but it was doing little good.

Zuko crawled over to Xemone and picked her up to a sitting position before blowing light bursts of fire between them to warm up. Xemone bended her sand around them, like a blanket and allowed Zuko’s fire breath to heat it up. The sand absorbed the warmth of the flames, allowing them to warm up before they gave it another go.

"Ugh-gh. I hate s-swimming. Earthbenders j-just aren't meant to swim...." said Xemone as she stuttered through the cold.

Zuko shivered a little and then looked around the dark cave.

"Earthbender."

Xemone turned to face Zuko and saw him pointing somewhere.

Xemone bended the sand back into her sand gourd and they both stood up. Zuko walked over to where he was pointing to and looked down.

Xemone followed shortly after and figured out what he was pointing to.

“That water’s crystal clear and is running in an awfully fast current. It must be for city usage.”

Zuko nodded and grabbed Xemone's arm. They both took a deep breath and dove into the water, following the currents that were pulling them throughout the tunnel.

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

They kept swimming for quite a while, though with the force of the current in the tunnel, not much swimming was required, until the reached a small air pocket and popped their heads above the water to catch their breath.

Zuko took a look around the small enclosure. There seemed to be three separate currents running under them. But figuring out which one led to their destination was no easy task.

Zuko popped his head back underwater to search for a good route to keep swimming in.
He spotted a very faint glimmer of light coming from the course of a current down to the left.

He made a quick trip back up for one more gulp of air, before grabbing Xemone and heading off again…

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

A while later, they reached a solid wall of ice above them, and they could go no further forward as they were faced with a wall of stone. They were trapped and couldn’t go back now on the oxygen they had left. The current they were following was going through a metal grate in the stone wall, meaning they couldn’t follow that anymore, either.

They couldn't hold their breath for much longer, so Zuko used firebending in the palms of his hands to heat up the ice above until it melted. Once he had broken through, Xemone and Zuko burst through the water onto the slab of ice the insane Waterbenders chose to call a “floor” gasping for air and shivering.

They took a rest for a minute with Zuko's breath of fire, along with Xemone sand covering, warming them up.

"L-l-l-et's....t-t-take...a warmer route back..." said Xemone while shivering and gasping, trying to lighten the mood.

“Y-y-es. W-well there’s ei-either the endless exp-p-anse of freezing cold w-water or the endless expanse of freezing cold a-air, walking on t-the ground that’s basically i-ice covered in s-snow. Take your pick E-earthbender.”

Xemone scoffed at Zuko’s words as she tried to warm herself up.

Zuko then looked around quickly, breaking through Xemone’s sand, which she earthbended back into her gourd, stood and said, "Quietly. Follow me."

Xemone followed Zuko and they were soon in what was, apparently, the back entrance to a warm garden-like place.

Xemone could sense the spirituality of this room. It felt so warm, so peaceful, and so nice. But that amazing feeling didn’t last for long as Xemone suddenly sensed it.

"He's....he's reached the Avatar state."

"What?!" exclaimed Zuko.

"I can sense it. It's so close, but...I don't see the normal chaos caused by the inexperienced Avatar, when in the Avatar state."

"Hmmm..."

Zuko looked around and saw a small shrine by a pond, the back of it anyway. He and Xemone moved around quietly to get a peak at what was in front of it.

Right on the edge of the pond was the Avatar, eyes glowing, and tattoos glowing, along with two Water Tribe girls standing behind him. One was Katara, the other seemed to be a white haired native girl; perhaps a Princess, judging by her appearance.

"There he is...and...his tattoos are glowing along with his eyes....He is in the Avatar state...but how is he so calm?" asked Zuko. He noticed that, not only was the Avatar not going berserk, but he seemed to be unresponsive, like he was in some deep trance.

If there was ever a good time to get the Avatar, it would be now.

"Let's wonder about that later. It's easier this way anyway." replied Xemone.

"Let's go."

They then sneaked up from behind the shrine while Katara was saying "I'm perfectly capable of protecting him." To the Princess who was inquiring something inaudible to Zuko and Xemone beforehand.

"Well, aren't you a big girl now..." mocked Xemone as she made her way over the bridge that overlooked a moat that surrounded the pond.

"No!" said Katara quietly, in shock.

"Oh, yes." said Zuko as he made his way over the other bridge on the opposite side of them, successfully blocking them in.

The other Water Tribe girl asked in a shaky voice, “Who are these people?”

“We’re people who want the Avatar, and now.” replied Xemone.

Katara clenched her fists and said to the Water Tribe girl, ignoring Xemone, “The girl with the sand gourd is called ‘Xemone’, and the guy with the scar is called ‘Zuko’. Prince Zuko actually. He’s the Prince, or more so banished Prince of the Fire Nation. They’ve been hunting Aang ever since we met him.”

“I won’t be banished for much longer, girl.” Zuko said in spite.

"Hand the Avatar over to us and no blood will have to be spilled. At least not yours." said Xemone.

Katara replied by taking a battle position as the other Water Tribe girl ran off.

"I guess that's a 'no'" said Zuko.

“Shame, I thought that other girl was a bender so we could have a two-on-two match. But I guess we’ll just have to settle for…what was your name again? Katara?”

Katara replied with a simple “Hmph” before Zuko and Xemone took battle positions and the fight began.

Zuko kicked fire towards Katara who blocked it with water from the pond. She then shot a waterwhip towards Zuko, sending him flying through the air. She seemed to be way more powerful than usual.

The full moon was still out, so her powers were maximized.

Xemone took her turn as Zuko collected himself. She shot sand from her sand gourd at Katara, who blocked with the pond water and shot a water cannon at Xemone who then was pushed back into the surrounding waters. Katara froze Xemone's feet to the ground.

Xemone struggled. An Earthbender’s fighting style relies heavily on the feet, so she was having trouble getting free for a moment.

Katara bended the water around Xemone into a sphere and froze her inside it.

"Hmph....I see the student has found a teacher in this frozen city." said Xemone with a smirk, “But no matter.” She bended her sand with slight arm techniques to burst the ice around her.

Zuko shot numerous fireballs at Katara once he got back to his feet. She managed to block them all by covering her forearms in ice and using them as shields, refreezing the ice, when necessary.

"I can't take this anymore, we’re wasting time, we have to get him now, while we still can!" yelled Xemone. She made a break towards the Avatar as Katara was distracted with Zuko.

Katara caught a glimpse of her and shot a waterwhip at her, sending Xemone into the sacred pond water.

Xemone splashed and tried to swim back, but couldn't even doggy-paddle with the sand on her back and she sunk like a rock.

Katara froze Zuko in spikes and Zuko lost consciousness.

Katara was counting her blessings that it was a full moon. If it hadn’t she would’ve had little chance against Zuko and Xemone.

Maybe separately, but never together.

Xemone kicked and struggled in a panicked state while in the sacred water, but then began to feel something happen to her...Something not right.

As the sun rose over the horizon, shining over the hunk of ice spikes made by Katara, Zuko blew steam from his nose as he awoke from his unconscious state and melted the ice around him. He charged towards Katara with a powerful fire attack. Katara tried to block, but failed and got slammed into a tree, nearly knocking her out.

Zuko grabbed the Avatar by the collar of his shirt and told Katara with pride, "You rise with the moon...I rise with the sun."

Katara then lost consciousness. The last thing she saw being Aang in the hands of their enemy.

"Earthbender, let's go!" Zuko yelled. He hadn’t seen that she had fallen into the sacred waters in all the chaos.

"Earthbender!" Zuko yelled again. He saw her no where in sight. The pond water was deathly still and the silence was deafening.

"Always running off on her own.” said Zuko, “She better not get herself killed."

Zuko then took the Avatar and ran off to the exit, on his way to the frozen wasteland outside to return his captor and claim what was rightfully his.

He felt a twinge of guilt for going off to claim the Avatar without Xemone, but he had no time, and, from his point of view, she chose to run off. She could take care of herself. Right now all that mattered was the Avatar, and surviving the journey ahead.

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

Xemone drifted down into the depths of the sacred pond in a trance-like state. She didn’t know what was happening to her. Her body wasn’t responsive. She assumed she was going to drown. She kept sinking and sinking, like the pond was an endless pit of water.

Suddenly, her eyes shot open and a rush of energy shot through her body. She quickly grabbed her sand gourd and shot sand towards the sides of the pond, hoping to reach some stone somewhere.

She eventually reached some, the wall of the pond and fused the sand to it. She bended the sand under her feet to create a small platform on the side of the stone before taking her entire sand gourd and bending it to rise under her and shoot her out of the water.

She finally broke the surface and frantically grasped the side of the pond and pulled her self onto the warm grass.

She gasped and coughed and held herself in a fetal position. She was shaking and panting. But it wasn’t because of her nearly drowning. No, it was something else.

She could feel her own heartbeat, pulsing through her body. Her body was vibrating. Not shaking due to the semi-cold waters, but actually vibrating.

"Some....thing....is…is very wrong..." She managed to speak before she started groaning as if in pain.

"What happened?....What....What is in that water?...."

She yelled out in pain and clutched her head.

"Something...." her voice got low and demonic as she spoke. She opened her eyes as they started to glow red.

"Something's awakened it...."

Author's notes - Okay, here's Chapter 16 Part 2. Came quick because it didn't need much work. =O

Nothing really much to say about this chapter (segment) except don't ask why Zhao hasn't wondered where Xemone is. Let's just leave it as either, he couldn't care less or I can't fit it into the story well. XD

Okay then. Enjoy. ^_^

The Lone Earthbender

Book 1: Water

Chapter 16 Part 2

WARNING--THIS CHAPTER IS FAR MORE VIOLENT THAN PAST CHAPTERS.

Zuko trekked through the snowy tundra with the unconscious Avatar, who still in the Avatar State, on his back as a blizzard stormed around him, pounding him mercilessly with freezing ice and snow.

It's too cold… thought Zuko, ...I don't know how much further I can go…I need to warm myself somewhere away from the snow…

He then spotted a small cave through the blinding snow. It was small, but it would have to do.

"Shelter..." said Zuko quietly as he dragged the Avatar into the cave.

He set the Avatar down on the floor of the cave, took some rope that was hanging off his belt and tied the Avatar up, just in case he awoke. Zuko then proceeded to warm himself up with his breath of fire.

Zuko sat there and watched the snow blow by the opening to the cave, occasionally blowing a puff of fire on his shivering hands and said "I hope that Earthbender didn't go and die on me.” He paused for a second before continuing, “I wonder where she went off to anyway..."

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

Xemone groaned in pain on the ground by the sacred pond that housed the fish Tui and La, the physical forms of the moon and ocean spirits.

Something had happened to her body when she hit that water, and it wasn't good. Her eyes glowed red and her sclera’s started to turn black. She knew what was happening and struggled to keep herself under control. Not again….

Katara was still unconscious by the tree Zuko had slammed her into so she still had time to escape before her friends returned with that white-haired native that had run off in the middle of their big battle.

Xemone groaned and convulsed on the ground as her body started to pulsate a glow of black. She stood up slowly and stumbled over to the exit of the sacred area as fast as she could. Just in time too, as she saw Katara awaken to the sound of the white-haired native girl return with Sokka and Appa.

Xemone groaned, "Wonder where the....Prince went off to...Ugh...This can’t happen… " She then painfully walked out of the oasis and back into the city to find Zuko, before the Avatar’s friends took notice of her presence.

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

Zuko breathed fire onto his hands yet again before speaking to the unconscious Avatar, "I finally have you...but I can't get you home because of this blizzard..."

Zuko then walked to the cave entrance and stared off into the tundra.

"It's always something. Not that you would understand. You're like my sister...everything always came easy for her. She’s a firebending prodigy and everyone adores her. My father says she was born lucky and he says I was lucky to be born...I don't need luck though...I don't want it. I've always had to struggle and fight and that's made me strong. It's made me...who I am."

Zuko walked over to where he was before and sat back down. He blew some more fire onto his hands and said quietly to himself, “Struggling through hardships makes you strong...” He looked out into the furious storm again, “….That girl…”

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

Xemone stumbled onto the Water Tribe battlegrounds and watched the battle ensue. Fire vs. water, warrior vs. soldier, blood being shed, lives being lost. It was so…entertaining.

No!

She clutched her head in agony yet again and yelled out as her sclera’s completed turning black and her body began it's painful transformation.

She yelled out in a very strained, agonized voice as she flailed on the ground in pain. Her body glowed fully black now and it was getting harder and harder to fight. She yelled and groaned as the transformation neared completion.

Damn it…

Fire nation soldiers then burst onto the scene and started taking out Water Tribe soldiers one by one as they approached to protect their nation.

Too close to me…

Xemone could now smell death and blood....So much blood…

That was the final straw. She couldn’t stand it anymore. She suddenly stopped flailing and froze on the ground, perfectly still.

Fire Nation soldiers came over and shouted as if an order, "Hey girlie! You alive?!"

Another soldier noticed her sand gourd on her back.

"An Earthbender? Up here?" Said the soldier.

"Earthbender or Waterbender, they're all our enemies. If she's not already dead take her out, now!"

"Yes,sir!" said the soldier as he prepared to roast Xemone alive.

The sand gourd then melted onto Xemone as the Firebender launched his pyro assault.

"Yeah, fry you Earth Kingdom scum!!" yelled the soldier in delight.

As the fire dissipated, the soldier laughed, but then suddenly stopped as he just saw a smoldering pile of sand in front of him.

Xemone slowly emerged from the sand, the gritty substance pouring off her head like water.

She was now in full demon form and she was itching for carnage.

The soldier looked in shock at the being before him then yelled "Damn yo--!!" as a shot of sand went, quick as lightning, past his neck.

A couple seconds later the soldiers head popped off and blood spewed all over the ground, as his torso and disembodied head fell to the ground.

The other soldiers then looked back to see the carnage and the demon with the blank look standing in a pool of his blood.

All of the soldiers stood in shock, almost paralyzed in fear of the creature before them before rage overtook them.

The soldiers charged at her yelling in anger, weapons drawn and fire red hot.

Without even flinching Xemone's sand shot up into the sky and transformed into a hundred thin spikes, almost like long spears.

The spikes then shot from the sky at lightning-fast speeds at the soldiers, skewering them all.

Xemone then retracted her sand her sand without changing her expression, feeling joy at her accomplishments as the bodies of the men fell to the ground.

She sensed the Avatar state and slowly walked off in the direction of the signal. Looking, no, hunting for her ultimate prey.

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

Meanwhile, on Zhao's main ship...

"Need I remind you we have a time limit?" said Iroh, Zhao's newly appointed, yet undercover, General, "We need to defeat the Water Tribe before the full moon rises or else they will be unbeatable."

"I assure you, I have everything under control. I intend to remove the moon as a factor." said Zhao with a smug look.

"Remove the moon?" asked Iroh, "How?"

Zhao was about to answer the General when a...wrongly dressed "undercover" Water Tribe "spy" ran onto the bow yelling "Admiral Choy!! Prepare to meet your fate!!"

He then charged at Admiral Zhao with a spear, but was easily flung overboard by Zhao.

Iroh shook his head at the Water Tribe boy's display.

"As I was saying, years ago I stumbled upon a great and powerful secret. The identity of the moon spirits mortal form..."

"What?" exclaimed Iroh in shock and disapproval.

"I was a young Lieutenant serving under General Shu in the Earth Kingdom. I discovered a hidden library, underground in fact. I tore through scroll after scroll. One of them contained a detailed illustration and the words "Moon" and "Ocean". I knew then that these spirits could be found...and killed and that it was my destiny to do so." explained Zhao.

"Zhao! The spirits are not to be trifled with!"

"Yes, yes, I know you fear the spirits, Iroh. I've heard rumors about your journey into the spirit world. But the moon and ocean spirits gave up their immortality to become a part of our world and now they will face the consequences."

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

Xemone dashed over the tundra, unfazed by the cold and the blizzard, totally focused on her goal, propelled by her sand.

The snow flowed all around her as the sand dug into it and the blizzard blew.

Night fell and the full moon rose over the icy city, which almost glowed in exchange for the moon’s rays, as Xemone neared her goal....

The Lone Earthbender

Book 1: Water

Chapter 16 Part 3

End of Book 1

Xemone rushed towards the location of the Avatar's energy signal, plowing through mounds and mounds of snow in an intense blizzard, but suddenly stopped when she saw what looked like a shooting star fly through the sky.

It was no shooting star. It was the spirit of the Avatar flying back to his body, she could sense it, and it didn’t make her happy.

Xemone growled at the sight of this. She knew that by the time she caught up to the Avatar that he would no longer be in the Avatar state and probably wouldn't be able to enter that state for quite a while afterward, as he would be exhausted.

She growled in anger, but knew there were plenty of other lives for the taking while she waited for him to regain his energy back at the city, so she rushed back to the icy city. At least she could have a little fun before the real show began.

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

The Avatar returned to his body with a bright flash of light and awoke only to realize that he was tied in ropes on a cold stony floor.

He looked around to find himself in a snowy cave with Zuko sitting in the corner.

"Welcome back" said Zuko.

"Good to be back." said Aang with an attitude as he took a deep breath and blew Zuko smack into the cave wall and flung himself outside the cave to escape. He tried to crawl away in the snow, only to have his feeble efforts be stopped by Zuko.

"That won't be enough to escape." said Zuko.

As he was about to grab the Avatar, the Avatar’s flying bison, carrying the Waterbender girl Katara, her brother Sokka, and the Princess of the Northern Water Tribe.

"Appa!" exclaimed Aang in delight.

The bison landed and let Katara jump off. Katara took a fighting position in front of Zuko.
Zuko turned and took his fighting position, "Looking for a rematch?"

"Trust me Zuko, it's not going to be much of a match." Said Katara as she blocked the fire attack Zuko then sent. "Hmph, I thought your Earthbender girlfriend would've been here by now."

"She is not my girlfriend!" yelled Zuko as he launched another attack.

Katara dodged.

"Though speaking of which, you haven't seen her have you?"

Katara attacked again with a burst of water and knocked Zuko over, but he quickly regained his composure. "I haven't seen her since our last battle." Replied Katara.

Aang’s eyes then opened wide and he said in a trembling tone. "I--....I know where she is..."

Zuko and Katara both stopped immediately at the tone of his voice.

"How would you know,Aang? You didn't even see her at the oasis right? You were in the Avatar state." Asked Katara.

"I--...I can sense her...Such evil energy...So powerful...."

"Where is she?!" demanded Zuko.

"I think...she was heading over here for some reason before...I can sense her presence close by, but it’s fading. I think she's heading back to the North Pole..." Aang then gasped in horror as visions of chaos and massacre flowed through his head.

"What is it Aang?!" asked Katara as she ran towards him.

Aang’s eyes flew open and he said in a panic, "I think she's going to slaughter everyone at the North Pole!"

"Oh no!" gasped Yue, "We've got to stop her!!"

"Don't worry Yue, we will." Said Sokka as he grabbed Yue’s hand.

Katara then reached for Aang to prepare to leave, but was blocked by Zuko, who sent a fire blast her way.

Katara blocked with a small wave of snow and sent him flying with it.

She grabbed Aang as Sokka slid down Appa and cut Aang's ropes off.
Zuko got up, charged at them and said "You're not getting away that easily!"

Katara turned and created a giant ice ball with the snow and froze in a threatening position.

Zuko stopped in his tracks, still in a fighting pose.

"Look, it's a full moon Zuko. My powers are immense at this point in time and you have no chance to beat me until sunrise. Your friend is out there. You have two choices. Attack me, lose and be left here to die, or agree to a temporary truce and help us and you may find her.”

Zuko snarled.

"Either way you're not getting Aang, but choose the latter and you will stay alive and maybe get your friend back." Said Katara.

Zuko snarled again and stewed in frustration.

"We can use you anyway. You probably know a lot more about what she really is than we do. I mean, we didn't even know she was part demon until now." Said Aang.

Zuko huffed and agreed in an annoyed tone "Fine." He got up on Appa, alongside the others and they rode off to stop Xemone from causing utter destruction.

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

Zhao and a group of his soldiers trekked through the city as the Waterbenders attacked with their heightened abilities. Zhao and his soldiers made their way through them slowly, following a special map to the oasis that he has had since his time in the Earth Kingdom Library as the Gaang, Yue and Zuko flew through the sky, searching for Xemone who was far ahead of them.

"So many awful things are happening in the Northern Water Tribe..." Stated Yue in a sad tone.

"Don't worry. Everything will be fine. We'll take down that Earthbender girl, defeat the Fire Nation and everything will be ok." said Sokka, trying to comfort the Princess.

"Hmph, you haven't seen her in her demon form? She's totally unbeatable.” said Zuko as he stared at the sky.

"Well, we have the Avatar and the Avatar is the most powerful being to ever live. There's no way she can defeat him." said Katara in a stern tone.

Zuko gave a slight chuckle "You just keep thinking that, girlie.”

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

At the oasis, Zhao had arrived and was finally setting his master plan into motion.

A quick grab into the water and he bagged the moon spirit's physical form in a bag, which, in turn, turned the moon blood red.

The red light beamed over everything and the Waterbenders’ powers were instantly gone as the light hit them.

They were now powerless against the Firebenders, who were going through with an even more vicious onslaught of attacks towards the Water Tribe.

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

As they flew through the air Yue suddenly grabbed her head in pain.

Sokka rushed to her side "What's wrong?"

"I feel faint." replied the Princess.

"I feel it too." said Aang in a distressed tone, "The moon spirit is in trouble."

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

Xemone finally arrived at the main city and reached the battlefield, which had now become entirely one-sided due to the Waterbenders’ lack of power from the absence of the light of the moon.

Being drawn more towards the stronger soldiers of the group at the time, Xemone started taking out the unsuspecting Firebenders one by one.

Surprised by this strange interruption, they soon directed their attack towards Xemone.

She lunged towards them all, quicker than the eye could see, and the Waterbenders watched in horror as nothing could be heard, but three things; screams, bones crushing, and blood splattering.

The Water Tribe soldiers retreated quickly, taking advantage of their chance, as Xemone continued her slaughter.

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

Zhao raised the bag that held the moon spirit captive to the sky and proclaimed in triumph, "I am a legend now....The Fire Nation will forever tell stories about the Great Zhao, who darkened the moon! They will call me Zhao the conquerer! Zhao the moon slayer!! Zhao the Invincible!!"

Just then, Momo jumped on Zhao's face, tugging at his sideburns and scratching his face as he yelled "Get it off!! Get it off!!"

Momo jumped off his face and flew onto the arm of the Avatar, who had finally arrived at the oasis.

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

Xemone sensed him. She could sense the Avatar even if he's not in the Avatar state; it just takes a little longer to fully lock onto him. Xemone smiled, while covered in Firebender blood and standing over many dead soldiers, and lunged towards the direction of the Avatar. Her ultimate target was soon to be met....She’d grown tired of waiting. She was going to get her prize, even if she had to force him into the Avatar state.

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

The Gaang and Zhao's soldiers took battle positions and faced off against each other.

Zhao smirked, "Don't bother." he ordered his soldiers.  Zhao placed his fist over the bag which held the moon spirit.

"Zhao!! Don't." said Aang, knowing what he was planning to do.

"It's my destiny" replied Zhao "Destroy the moon and the Water Tribe."

"Destroying the moon won't hurt just the Water Tribe." warned Aang, "It will hurt everyone...including you. Without the moon, everything would fall out of balance. You have no idea what kind of chaos that would unleash on the world."

"He's right Zhao." Said Iroh as he approached Zhao.

"General Iroh?" questioned Zhao, "Why am I not surprised to discover your treachery?"

"I'm no traitor Zhao! The Fire Nation needs the moon too! We all depend on the balance. Whatever you do to that spirit I'll unleash on you ten-fold! Let it go! Now!

Zhao took a minute to think, before bowing his head, and seemingly caved into Iroh’s demands. He knelt down and dumped the spirit back into the oasis, which turned the moonlight back to its normal, white brightness as the small fish swam around with its counterpart happily.

Suddenly Zhao’s expression turned maniacal and he sliced through the water with his firebending, killing the moon spirit, instantly. Iroh, Aang and the others watched in horror as the moon disappeared completely and the sky turned black....

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

Xemone stopped as she sensed something. She looked up at the blackened sky. She breathed in deep, let out a long sigh and smirked. The only thing she loved as much as killing was darkness; pure blackness. She drank it in, her red eyes glowing brightly, but then remembered the Avatar and quickly continued towards the oasis.

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

Iroh attacked Zhao with a vengeance, but Zhao managed to deflect his attacks, his maniacal smirk never leaving his face, until Iroh got to his bodyguards, which were toppled like dominoes under his onslaught. Seeing this, Zhao decided to not take his chances, and ran away, unnoticed.

As the ocean spirit swam around the corpse of its dead counterpart, Iroh, Aang and the others gathered around the oasis. Iroh picked up the charred moon spirit gently, his eyes heavy with a somber tone.

"There's no hope now...” said Yue. “It's over..."

"No, “said Aang in a deep, distorted voice “it's not over." Aang's tattoos and eyes started to glow as he entered the Avatar state. He slowly walked into the waters of the Oasis, before stopping right in the center.

He took an almost meditative stance and stared at the ocean spirit, who stared back at the Avatar until his eyes also started to glow and the oasis waters glowed brightly alongside them. Aang sank in the water, as if melding with the oasis and the ocean spirit itself and a blue, radiant light covered the North Pole.

The waters from the oasis and the city itself combined themselves with the mysterious light to create a giant creature of water; gargantuan and powerful, with an almost reptilian look to it, with the Avatar in the center of the beast, matching its movements to his own. The Avatar was the creature. The water tribe villagers bowed before the behemoth and the Firebenders attempted to attack it, only to be washed away by a single swipe of the humongous creature’s hand.

The creature attacked the enemy machines and the soldiers below, until it sensed something, and only a second later felt something slice its arm off.
The watery arm fell onto the ground below and the Avatar looked at what attacked it.
The Gaang also witnessed this after leaving the oasis and looked over to where the attack came from.
They all gasped when they saw the transformed Xemone standing like a statue, eyes glowing red, her sand shrouding her to shield herself from the water.

"Is that...Is that the Earthbender girl!? Xemone!?" asked Katara, her eyes wide with shock.

"Her eyes are so cold...so dead." stated Yue, "I can sense it, as Aang did back in the snow. Such a murderous, evil soul; I'm feeling ill just standing here."

"She sliced off the creature’s arm with such ease. I can see why Aang was so worried." said Sokka, "Urgh, if there's one thing we don't need right now, it's a super-strong demonic Earthbender attacking our only means of victory right now."

"Hey, Zuko! Can't you do something about her--" asked Katara before she cut herself off.
She found the spot where Zuko was before bare. Zuko had run off.

"Zuko?! ZUKO!!" yelled Katara.

"Figures the guy would bail on us." commented Sokka.

Xemone faced the creature with a stony expression. The Avatar rebuilt the creature’s arm with ease from excess water around the city.

The Avatar and Xemone locked gazes, before the creature attacked Xemone with an onslaught of water attacks. She burst through all of them easily and aimed for Aang with an assault of numerous sand needles shooting towards him.

”Aang, look out!!” yelled Katara.

The beast caught the needles with his arm and, like footprints being washed away at the beach by the tide; they deformed and poured onto the ground as wet sand.

Xemone raised her hand and the sand on the ground returned to her.

The Firebenders below attacked Xemone, confused on which enemy was the enemy they should be focusing on, but she easily knocked the fire attacks away with her sand.

“Pathetic insects….” thought Xemone.

She wrapped her sand around the Firebenders and lifted them up off the ground, constricting them within the sand.

Katara watched as the Firebenders yelled in pain, "Oh my God...Is she going to..."

Sokka grabbed Yue and Katara and held their faces to him to shield them from the sight of what was about to happen.
Xemone bended the sand, relishing the Firebenders yells of agony one more time, before slapping her palms together causing the sand to slice all the Firebenders in half; their severed bodies falling to the ground as blood rained on Xemone's head.

The water that made up the Avatar's creature form was now stained red with blood and the Avatar became enraged at this and slammed his giant fist onto Xemone, who just shot through the fist, cocooned in her sand and sand-slapped the monster in its face.

Zhao tried to escape from the North Pole for the safety of his ships, making his way across an ice bridge, but was stopped by a fireball that shot in front of him from behind and a cloud of smoke and snow blocked his path. He looked behind him to see Zuko standing in a battle position.

Zhao became surprised at this site, "You're alive?"

"You tried to have me killed!!” yelled Zuko as he launched another attack towards Zhao.

Zhao blocked his offences "Yes I did. You and your Earthbender friend are the Blue and Red spirits; enemies of the Fire Nation. You two freed the Avatar, and that is unforgivable."

Zuko prepared his assault again, "We had no choice!"

He then kicked fire up at Zhao, but Zhao blocked.

Zhao knew he wouldn’t escape without taking care of the nuisance that has bothered him for years. He then took off his cloak to prepare for battle.

"You should've chosen to accept your failure. You're a disgrace. Then at least...you could've lived!" Zhao angrily shot an attack at Zuko, who dodged and they began a close range fire-duel.

Fire flew everywhere and punches landed back and forth until Zuko knocked Zhao off the bridge and into the water.

Zuko was about to continue his attacks on the Admrial when he heard a huge crash behind him.

The giant water creature, created by the Avatar, crashed through a huge wall behind him.

Zuko looked to see the Avatar in the center of the beast.

"The Avatar..." Zuko looked closer to see what he expected he would see.
He saw a red glow in the sky and at closer inspection he saw Xemone in her demon form.
Zuko gritted his teeth.

Zuko looked back into the water and looked back at Xemone. He had a choice to make and it had to be made now.

He huffed then ran towards the red light, leaving Zhao in the water.

Zhao snickered, "Fool..."

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

Iroh and the others returned to the oasis as Xemone and the Avatar fought, desperately trying to figure out some way to fix this mess. They placed the dead physical form of the moon spirit’s body back into the oasis waters.

"There’s nothing we can do...It's dead." said Katara in a saddened tone.

Iroh then took notice of the white haired princess in the group, "You have been touched by the moon spirit...Some of its life is in you."

Yue’s expression became somber, “Yes…it gave me life...” her expression turned to a determined one, “maybe I can give it back."

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

Xemone and the beast continued their battle, their focus solely on each other.

The beast trapped Xemone in a water sphere made from his fist. Xemone started to drown, but expanded her sand in all directions causing the giant to lose his grip, sending Xemone to the ground, catching herself in her sand.

She then made a loop with her sand around the beast’s neck and tightened it, slicing the giant’s head off. This seemed to cause the Avatar great pain, but was rectified when he regenerated the creature’s head with more water.

She tried to shoot her sand directly at the Avatar, but the beast's fluid body kept protecting him from her onslaught.

Xemone was becoming enraged, and this was being mirrored in her energy, which was becoming more violent and wild.

Zuko ran, the red light getting brighter, but then stopped and realized there was very little he could do to stop Xemone in this state. Last two times he got lucky, very lucky. but luck didn't seem to be on his side this time.

If even the Avatar has trouble staving off the demonic Earthbender, what hope does one Fire Nation prince have?

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

"You don't have to do that!" yelled Sokka in desperation to Yue as he tried to save his love from sacrificing herself.

"It's my duty Sokka..." replied Yue in a stern yet saddened tone.

"I won't let you! Your father told me to protect you!" Sokka clutched Yue’s hand in his tighter.

"I have to do this..." Said Yue as she let go of Sokka’s hand and approached Iroh, who was holding the moon spirit's physical form in his hands.

Yue placed her hands on it and closed her eyes. Seconds later the fish glowed under Yue's hands and she fell over into Sokka's arms, lifeless.

"No!" Yelled a distressed Sokka as he caught her in his arms. He checked her pulse to see if she was still alive, but...

"She's gone..." Said Sokka in a saddened tone. He held Yue in his arms tighter and repeated softly, "She's gone..."

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

Zuko watched Xemone attack the beast over and over. She was so focused, yet so wild. It was intense watching her fight the beast, mesmerizing even. Zuko knew he had to stop this, but how?

Just then Zhao came into sight from out of nowhere. Zuko was startled “Zhao!”

Zhao watched Xemone in the sky and said to himself with awe. "Incredible power...So immense. She's rivaling even the Avatar's strength. I'm sure the Fire Lord would be ecstatic to have her as well as the Avatar. A two for one deal..."

Zhao whistled a signal to his soldiers, the ones that were still alive anyway.

As soldiers gathered around them, Zhao yelled "Fire at the red girl!!"

Zuko’s eyes grew wide, “Wait!”

The soldiers sent a barrage of fireballs at Xemone, which just proved to infuriate her even more than she already was as she saw the flames barrel towards her.

She turned her attention towards the soldiers, directed her sand into numerous large spikes and launched them at the soldiers. Most of them ran away as they just saw her creating the spikes and were spared, but a few were caught in the spikes and were skewered.

Zhao yelled at the soldiers who were running, “Cowards!! You get back here and capture that monster!"

Xemone quickly turned her attention towards the Admiral.

Zuko saw this and instantly knew her intentions, "Run, Zhao!!"

Xemone then quickly bolted over to Zhao, and stood face to face with him, mere feet away from each other, a look of murderous intent in Xemone’s eyes.

Zuko ran for Zhao to try and save him from the fate that Xemone was sure to deal to him.

Xemone stared at Zhao; Zhao panicked and launched a fire attack while yelling "Monster!!"

Xemone dodged easily, as if the attack hadn’t even been launched, and quickly wrapped Zhao from head to toe in her sand.

Zhao struggled against the entrapment, but couldn't break free.

Zuko was close to them, but not quite close enough "Don’t!!"

It was too late.

Xemone crushed Zhao's body in the sand like a grape, and blood splattered all over.

Zuko stopped in his tracks, some blood staining his face, and stared at the sight in shock of what just happened. Xemone glanced at Zuko for a second before returning to the Avatar. Zuko recomposed himself for a second and quickly got an idea.

He ran to find Iroh.

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

Sokka held Yue's lifeless body in his arms as he grieved over the loss of his love. Moments later, Yue's body vanished in his arms.

Iroh released the fish, which had healed from Yue’s energy and had regained life, back into the oasis, where it swam around energetically.

The oasis started to glow, the light forming into a human shape, and a figure soon appeared.

It was Yue's spirit, dressed in beautiful, flowing clothing befitting that of a god. Sokka, Iroh and Katara stared in awe at the beautiful sight of the princess.

Yue's spirit said gently, "Goodbye Sokka…I will always be with you." Yue's spirit then took Sokka’s face in her hands, and kissed Sokka gently on the lips. Sokka began to kiss back as Yue's spirit faded away and the moon returned to its rightful place in the sky; illuminating the darkness.

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

Zuko found Iroh in the oasis and in a panicked tone asked "Uncle! Do you know anything about spiritual seals?!"

Iroh replied "A little bit, but I’m no expert. Why?"

"Follow me!" yelled Zuko as he grabbed his Uncle's arm and ran back to the battle ground.

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

As the moon returned to the sky, the Avatar looked up to see the luminous moon overhead. Knowing his job was done, and the battle before him was pointless, the beast returned his watery form back to the sea and returned the Avatar back to dry land.

Xemone looked up also as the beast disappeared. She became enraged, knowing she had lost her chance to destroy the Avatar in his Avatar state.

She yelled in anger at the sky, and then stood still for an eerily calm moment.

Zuko and Iroh hid behind an ice mass and watched Xemone as she stood, stewing in anger.

Zuko asked "Do you think you can do it?"

Iroh replied "I'm not entirely sure. Afterall, we're very unclear about the specifics of her demonic power and I'm not exactly an expert on demonic seals."

"We just have to subdue her before we have an even bigger slaughter on our hands."

They then observed as she looked like she was about to go on a rampage again just to blow off some steam.

"Now!!" yelled Zuko.

They both launched a fire attack at Xemone. Xemone turned and blocked quickly with her sand. She smirked at the challenge and bolted towards Zuko and Iroh.

Iroh ran around her towards a pool of blood left by Zhao. Zuko was left as a distraction. He ran away from her as fast as he could. Xemone's sand quickly caught up to him and she grabbed Zuko by the ankles and dragged him towards her.

"Urgh...Uncle, hurry!!" yelled Zuko as he feared for his life against the murderous Earthbender.

Iroh then appeared so quickly it was almost assassin level speed. He grabbed Xemone and put her in a choke hold. Zuko tackled Xemone to the ground, pinned her and pushed her face-down into the snowy ground. She struggled with all her might. They were holding her so still she couldn’t manage any sort of attack.

Iroh said "Hold her very still, Zuko”

He then drew a complicated symbol on the back of Xemone's neck, which was the center-point of her main seal, with Zhao's blood. He said a chant very quickly and slammed his palm into the symbol, which drew a quick flash of red light.

Xemone’s struggle ended as the flash dissipated. She became extremely still and then fell, unconscious, as her demonic aura slowly faded away, her horns shrunk and her eyes returned to normal.

Iroh sighed "I'm so relieved that that worked..."

Zuko replied with a matching sigh, "Yes...So...is she really back to normal now?"

"I'm not entirely sure. Like I said, I'm not an expert in the makings of the demonic world and we know very little about her demonic side, but I think she'll fine."

"Hey Uncle, why did you need Zhao's blood to seal it?"

"I didn't specifically need Zhao's blood. You see the oasis is filled with pure, spiritual waters, totally untainted. For some reason I think when Xemone became in prolonged contact with the water, it agitated her demonic side, causing it to release itself and spring forth. Not to speak ill of the dead, but I thought that making the seal with the blood of an evil man, would do just the opposite."

"I don't get it..."

"Think of it like this.Xemone's demon half thrives on death, hatred and evil. When in contact with the purity that is the oasis waters, it "starved" her demon half, so to speak. So I decided to quell the demon's hunger by sealing it with an evil man's blood."
"Hmph..." Replied Zuko as her stared at Xemone's motionless, unconscious body. "We should get her out of here."

"Agreed" Said Iroh. They then picked Xemone up and ran for shore...

Morning broke, but the moon still stayed in the sky. Yue's father and Sokka stared at the moon together.

Yue's father said "The spirits gave me a vision when Yue was born. It was of a beautiful, brave, young woman, becoming the moon spirit." He then breathed in quickly to quell the tears that were coming to his eyes "I knew this day would come..."

"You must be proud" Said Sokka.

"So proud....and sad..."

XxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxX

A make-shift raft floated down in the sea. Iroh prepared a sail for it as Zuko looked out onto the horizon and Xemone slept.

"I am surprised Prince Zuko, surprised that you are not at this moment, trying to capture the Avatar." Said Iroh, raising his eyebrows in curiousity.

"I'm tired..." Replied Zuko softly.

"Then you should rest...A man needs his rest." Iroh walked back over to the sail and Zuko stared at Xemone. She was covered in blood from head to toe and was dripping wet from her battle with the water leviathan, created by the Avatar.

Zuko sat down next to her, took off his over coat and placed it over Xemone to keep her warm. He then laid himself down beside her and closed his eyes to rest.

Iroh smiled for a moment at the sight of Zuko’s kind gesture, but then looked at Xemone.

He then thought to himself To slay people mercilessly and be unable to stop yourself...To watch yourself from the inside as you do the unthinkable...To wake up afterwards covered in blood, haunted by the memories of everyone your demon half has slaughtered...each time you transform  you get more violent and unpredictable...It's like your human side is being eaten away every time your demon half shows itself...How much torture can you take, young Xemone, before you're lost forever?"
